EWN reports that South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) said it is heading to court over a breakdown in wage negotiations with the Passenger Rail Agency (PRASA). It said PRASA has refused to comply with a signed agreement of a 5.5% increase. The union said it will be serving the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) with a 30-day strike notice informing it of the intention of its members to down tools.

Spokesperson Amanda Tshemese said they are also approaching the Labour Court.
“We met with the group ceo of PRASA this afternoon. Unfortunately, the meeting did not yield any positive results the entity is not willing to comply with the collective agreement. We are left with no choice but to go on strike because the company is now breaching the collective agreement.”
