The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union has signed a 5.5% across the board wage increase agreement with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa after a process facilitated by the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). The agreement is effective from the 1st of August 2025 and applies to eligible employees in the bargaining unit as well as fixed term contract employees. All workers who will be in the risk pool are excluded from the agreement.
There will be no retrenchments of employees in the bargaining unit of the Corporate Office, PRASA Rail, PRASA Technical, Long Distance Passenger Division formerly known as Autopax. There will be no strikes on the increase pertaining to this agreement and there will be no retrenchments during the period of this agreement. The 5.5% wage increase will be backdated to April and paid to workers in September.
