CapricornFM News reports that the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) has expressed shame and disappointment at the conduct of a police sergeant ahead of her appearance in the Polokwane District Court today, 11 October 2024, on six counts of murder and seventeen cases of insurance fraud. The 43-year-old on-duty sergeant was apprehended in Senwabarwana on Thursday for allegedly benefiting from at least R10 million in payouts from funeral, accidental and life insurance policies from various banks and insurance companies.
The sergeant is linked to six murders of individuals from destitute, disadvantaged backgrounds and disabled or mentally challenged since 2019. Two more people were taken in for questioning later in the day on Thursday. POPCRU national spokesperson Richard Mamabolo has acknowledged that although a police officer has been arrested, it demonstrates that the police service still upholds its integrity, as the arrest was made by her fellow officers.
