Capricorn FM reports that the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa in Mpumalanga says the involvement of the police can assist in addressing safety concerns in health facilities. This follows the attack of health workers at KwaMhlanga Hospital in KwaMhlanga on Sunday allegedly by relatives who had brought in a patient with a gunshot wound.
DENOSA’s provincial secretary Cyril Mdhluli says such incidents have become a pandemic in the province, citing the recent attack that took place at Themba Hospital in Kabokweni on the 9th of August. He says the police must conduct patrols especially in the evenings, weekends, and during holidays and festive seasons. Mdhluli adds that the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison must also come on board and upskill security guards in health facilities.
