Metrobus drivers go on strike

EWN reports that Metrobus services in Johannesburg have come to a standstill after bus drivers hit the brakes on its operations on Thursday morning. Commuters have been left stranded in some parts of the city after the bus company abruptly halted its operations, leaving thousands of residents scrambling for alternative modes of transport.

The move will likely leave more than 30,000 commuters unable to get to work or school on time. It’s understood that several workers embarked on an unprotected strike after disrupting operations on Wednesday. The bus company said due to the security risk and fears of intimidation against its drivers, the nerve centre of its operations at Gandhi Square would remain closed until further notice.
