Capricorn FM reports that about 35 000 Education Assistants in Limpopo, employed under the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative will breathe a sigh of relief now that they will get Unemployment Insurance Fund benefits. The UIF Unit in Limpopo embarked on an outreach campaign to finalize the payment of former EAs in the Capricorn and Mopani Districts on Tuesday and the campaign is expected to run until the 17th of November 2023.
The campaign aims to assist former EAs who were part of phase 4 of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative which stopped at the end of September 2023. Assistant Director at the Department of Labour Mashudu Nyase says after realizing that majority of EAs have not been registered with the UIF, they communicated with the Department of Basic Education. She says they then reached an agreement that the department will register as the employer so that they allocate UIF reference number for all EAs.
