Capricorn News reports that heavy-duty operators at Sekhukhune district municipality have vowed to continue with their unprotected strike until their demands are met. The workers downed tools over a week ago, demanding that their salaries be moved from level 13 and 14 to level 7 and that they be compensated for Covid-19 danger allowances. This is despite the municipality having given them 48 hours to return to work or face disciplinary action.
Last week, the municipality said the Covid-19 danger allowances cannot be paid to the workers as council has never approved a policy regulating the payments , while the job evaluation process dealing with salary increments are still underway.
