Free State SAMWU demanding salary payments of Mafube Municipality workers

SABC News reports that the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the Free State is demanding that the Mafube Municipality immediate pay its workers’ salaries. Workers have not been paid their May and June salaries. SAMWU has also called for the dissolution of the municipality, saying that government’s intervention has failed.

Provincial Secretary, Tiisetso Mahlatsi, says, “Mafube is also in a historical debt of non-payment of workers pension funds. We also raised issue of the intervention team that we believe as SAMWU that they are failing to exercise and execute their mandate as an intervention team. But we are also echoing that since that there is no improvement since the intervention team, Mafube as a municipality has failed its constitutional obligation and warrants (it) to be dissolved.”
