SACTWU SETTLES GENERAL GOODS AND HANDBAGS LEATHER SECTOR WAGE NEGOTIATIONS

The COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) has settled its 2023 wage negotiations  for the General Goods and Handbags (GGH) leather sector. The new wage agreement was signed today, 28 June 2023. With effect from 1 July 2023, our members in this sector will receive a 7% wage increase.

In addition to their current paid Family Responsibility Leave (FRL) provisions, an additional day of unpaid FRL will be granted to those workers in this sector who wish to take up such an option. The settlement follows a wage dispute which was recently successfully resolved under the auspices of the National Bargaining Council of the Leather Industry of South Africa (NBCLI). The new agreement was concluded with GGH  employers represented by the Association of South African Manufacturers of Luggage, Handbags and General Goods.
