The Citizen writes that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) workers are demanding answers from the municipal leadership about a memorandum that they submitted to them two months ago. The workers say that they have given the municipality more than enough time to respond to them.
In a meeting held at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre last Friday, SAMWU members came to an agreement that they will march to the RNM offices early today (July 21). However, when workers arrived at RNM, not a single member of the leadership team was there to speak to them.
Eventually after waiting for hours, EXCO member Thuleleni Khanyase said she was sent by the mayor, Zodwa Mzindle, to listen to the workers’ grievances. The workers asked Khanyase to excuse herself because the mayor made a mistake in sending her to listen to them when they were clear that they want answers. Khanyase said that the mayor is willing to speak to the workers tomorrow morning. Some municipal departments have been affected.
