Tshwane must prioritise improving workers’ rights: Samwu

SABC News writes that The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) says it hopes that the City of Tshwane’s incoming administration will prioritise improving workers’ salaries. This as the city has 13 days to vote for a new Mayor after the removal of the DA’s Cilliers Brink following a vote of no confidence that the ANC spearheaded with the backing of ActionSA yesterday.

The union says under Brink’s leadership, a lot of workers were unfairly dismissed. Regional secretary of SAMWU in Tshwane, Precious Theledi, says they welcome Brink’s removal.  “With the DA administration, we saw many workers being dismissed. We had 45 employees who were dismissed unceremoniously. And workers who didn’t receive a salary increase for two years.”
